The Candle Project: Recycling Candles
The Candle Project
You’ve heard the saying, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure,” right? Well, this story proves that adage to be true.
CheckSammy, a recycling company based in Texas, recently recycled thousands of candles for a beauty supply company. The candles were either broken or just returned—and therefore unable to be resold. The client did not want their candles or jars to be recycled at consignment shops (which would have been a more traditional option), but they were also hesitant about sending them to landfills. That’s where CheckSammy stepped in: we were able to find a third party who would recycle the items through our unique system.
How We Recycled Thousands of Candles
It’s no secret that candles are a big business. They’re popular in home decor, they smell great, and they can even be used as a romantic mood-setter—so we weren’t the least bit surprised by the enormous quantity that a beauty supply company we worked with needed to recycle. But when we got there, we realized that what they also needed was protection for their brand image.
That’s where CheckSammy comes in. We make sure that all components are recycled properly and separately.
To do this, we first remove and recycle the labels from each jar. Then we break up each jar into small pieces in a controlled environment; finally, we separate each component of the candle: the jar, the wax, the wick, and the tin lid. Each element gets recycled separately, and the tin lids are sold to companies producing firestarters, continuing the life cycle of these materials.
Whether you’re a large retailer, or a small business owner looking for creative ways to avoid sending material to landfills, CheckSammy has the facilities, capacity, and connections to take on small or larger projects like the candle project.
At CheckSammy, we are committed to sustainability. We know that recycling is key to making our planet more sustainable, so we understand how important it is for businesses like yours to be able to recycle large quantities of unsellable stock without having to worry about what happens next.
We have the facilities and expertise to handle your requests quickly and efficiently, so what are you waiting for? Get started with CheckSammy today.
