How to Celebrate World Environment Day 2022, Every Day
June 5 is World Environment Day 2022. It’s a day to encourage awareness and action around protecting the environment – which is something we can definitely get behind!
But it got us thinking. World Environment Day 2022 is a great occasion to help our planet, but why limit it to just one day? We’ve gathered some of our favorite ways to embrace the World Environment Day theme every day.
A Brief Introduction to the World Environment Day Theme 2022
Since 1979, World Environment Day has been led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Today, it’s the biggest global platform for environmental outreach, celebrated by millions of people from all over the world.
A different country hosts the celebration each year and presents a theme. The World Environment Day Theme 2022 is “Only One Earth,” with Sweden as the host nation. This year’s focus is on “Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature.”
If you want to celebrate World Environment Day 2022, be sure to visit the official website. And if you’re interested in celebrating our planet and protecting the environment year-round, here are some ideas to do just that.
8 Ways to Celebrate World Environment Day 2022 Every Day
1. Start a Community Garden
If there’s already a community garden in your area, you can spend a couple of hours helping tend the weeds and planting new seeds. If a garden doesn’t exist yet, consider starting one. It’s a great way to help the environment and contribute to alleviating issues like food insecurity.
2. Host a Community Clean-Up
We partner with a lot of municipalities and companies to provide a wide range of sustainability solutions. We’re always inspired to see things like community clean-ups. From cleaning up neighborhoods to city-wide events, participating in community clean-ups in your area is a terrific way to support the environment. For safety’s sake, always remember to use tongs and wear rubber gloves.
3. Employ the 3 Rs (Even on Unconventional Items)
We’re all familiar with the 3 R’s: Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle. Sometimes it’s easy to find ways to incorporate these practices into your everyday life, but if you own or produce many hard-to-recycle items, this practice can be more challenging. Here at CheckSammy, we can recycle many items that are harder to recycle like candles, beauty products, and textiles – reach out if you have questions about recycling specific items.
4. Focus on Energy Conservation
From LED lights to low-energy appliances, there are lots of ways to reduce your energy consumption. You might even consider having a “no-power” hour once a month to go without power for an hour.
5. Organize a Spring-Cleaning Event
From college campuses to apartment complexes, hosting a spring-cleaning event is a terrific way to ensure the junk people are getting rid of gets handled responsibly. Too often, people toss items that could be recycled into regular dumpsters. When you host a spring-cleaning event, you can partner with a sustainable junk removal vendor to dispose of the items sustainably.
6. Donate to an Environmental Nonprofit
There are hundreds of worthy organizations doing amazing things to protect the environment. If you aren’t sure how to help, you can easily make a donation (or two) to an environmentally focused nonprofit organization.
7. Get Rid of Your Used Clothes (Sustainably)
Textiles are one of the biggest plagues on our landfills. If you can’t donate your used clothing, consider partnering with a textile recycling provider to make sure your used clothes don’t end up in landfills.
8. Take Care of Your Things
While taking care of your property doesn’t sound like it has anything to do with conservation, that couldn’t be further from the truth. When you take proper care of your items, they last longer, which means less waste in the landfills and fewer resources used in manufacturing. So, doing things like pressure washing your property is a terrific way to celebrate World Environment Day, any day.
Protect the Environment Everyday
This is our only planet. The more time we spend protecting it, the better off we’ll be. These are just eight ideas to make World Environment Day 2022 last beyond this June 5.
