Carbon Footprint
Carbon Footprint
Carbon footprint refers to the estimated total greenhouse gas emission, especially carbon dioxide, caused by people, products, places, organizations or events. In a nutshell, it is the amount of carbon dioxide we release into the atmosphere.
Why is this such a major concern?
It is the natural order of things that oxygen be emitted into the atmosphere so we can inhale it while exhaling carbon dioxide. What happens when there’s too much carbon dioxide and not enough oxygen left to inhale?
Let’s not even think about it! Instead, here are ways to prevent this from happening;
5 Simple Ways to Reduce Carbon Footprint
1. Switch off unnecessary lights
This is one of the easiest ways to do your bit to save the planet. Simple things like keeping the light off during the day and switching them off when you leave the room make all the difference!
2. Reuse, reduce, recycle!
You’ve probably heard this phrase from the days you were still learning to write up until now because it is imperative. Take the initiative to locate recycling facilities in your neighborhood and make use of them. We all know that you do not need to buy plastic bags every time you go grocery shopping; next time, take reusable bags and save the planet and your money.
3. Donate your clothes
Philanthropy AND saving the planet? Someone’s definitely a model citizen!
Don’t dispose of your old clothes; repair them if you can or give them to someone in need. If you’re a huge clothing manufacturer, or you’re in the hospitality industry with a lot of bed sheets to spare, CheckSammy’s Textile Service has got you covered. We take all kinds of textiles and ensure that they’re handled sustainably and responsibly. Have a look at our page for more information and let’s help you get rid of all that clutter, sustainably of course!
4. Save water
An oldie but a goldie! As often as we’ve heard before, water is still not being used sparingly. Bring out that poster you made in the 7th Grade, re-learn it and practice what you preach! A lot of the nation’s energy is used to pump, clean and heat water, so it’s essential that we use it wisely.
5. Make the switch to green energy
This option may not sound as simple as the others, but once you do it, you’ll wish you had done it sooner. Imagine the money you could save on electricity bills if you switched to a renewable power source such as solar power! This is especially useful for companies that use a lot of energy; they also get the opportunity to increase their ESG scores.
What are ESG scores?
ESG stands for Environmental, Social and Governance. The score measures an organization’s ability to deal with these factors while promoting sustainability and environmental wellness. There are various ways that an organization can increase its ESG Scores, especially when working with CheckSammy. For example, take a look at the initiative below.
The CheckSammy Carbon Offset Program
Firstly, let’s understand what carbon offsets are. With one metric tonne of carbon dioxide reduction, comes the creation of one credit achieved through climate action projects. These credits can be traded on the voluntary carbon market. “Offsetting” refers to the purchasing of carbon credits, in an attempt to balance unavoidable emissions.
Why You Should Join The Program
Customers want to be associated with organizations that do their part to keep our planet beautiful, thus getting involved in such an initiative is likely to increase your customer retention and attract new customers. Although emissions aren’t good for the environment, some of them are inevitable and we have no choice but to emit them into the atmosphere anyway! However, it is still vital that an organization finds a way to compensate for the emissions they cannot eliminate. Our Carbon Offset Program will help you achieve this.
